世界最偉大的【英國月季】育種家之一大衛·奧斯汀於2018年12月18日辭世。
在20世紀60年代，大衛·奧斯汀著手將古老玫瑰中華麗且花瓣繁多的花型、豐富的香味和旺盛生長性與現代月季的可重複開花、花色豐富的特性融合在一起，創造了全新的玫瑰品系,即英國玫瑰，也是後來「歐洲玫瑰」名稱的起源處，驚艷世界！
1961年，第一個玫瑰品種「風采連連看」問世。2004年，他獲得了由英國花園中心協會頒發的終身成就獎；2007年獲得大英帝國勳章，被認為是世界上最偉大的育種家之一。
奧斯汀玫瑰從大眾喜愛的瑞典女王，夏洛特女郎、瑪格麗特王妃、亞伯拉罕達比、黃金慶典，到知名切花月季朱麗葉，除了華麗的「包子」花型、細分的柔和漸變色、還有被精細劃分出的不同款玫瑰花香 這些都是奧斯汀月季的經典特色。
David C. H. Austin, the world’s greatest breeder of English Roses, died in December 2018 aged 92.
In the 1960s, Austin succeeded in breeding English Roses, which combine the delicate bloom type, wonderful fragrance, and vigor of Old Roses with the wider color range and remontancy of modern roses.
 
Austin’s first commercially available rose, Rosa “Constance Spry”, was introduced in 1961. In 2004, he received a lifetime achievement award from the Garden Centre Association and he was awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2007. In 2010, he was named a Great Rosarian of the World.
 
Austin’s roses possess a range of fragrance, color, and shape. His most famous cultivars include Queen of Sweden, Charlotte, Crown Princess Margareta, Abraham Darby, Golden Celebration, and Juliet.
